ATaC Chairman on BBC News

25 November 2010

The association has been in operation for over 20 years, representing asbestos testing and consultancy specialists throughout the UK and overseas.

ATAC's members are at the forefront of the industry because of the unique position that ATAC holds within the industry. ATAC are involved with various groups and committees on behalf of its members, therefore its members are aware of industry changes ahead of others who are not so involved.

There is still a problem with Asbestos Management in Schools as highlighted at the beginning of the year within the report published by ATAC. The report hit the headlines and received vast amount of press coverage. John O’Sullivan (ATAC Chairman) undertook various television interviews for BBC Breakfast, BBC News and ITV News, John Richards (ATAC management committee member) undertook interviews for Radio 5 Live. There were also over twenty separate news articles within various local and national newspapers including The Telegraph, The Independent, The Daily Mail, The Express and The Daily Mirror.

Everyone involved with the campaign have been pleased at the coverage which has helped raise awareness of the issue and now the Government has set up a committee to address the problem of asbestos in schools. The members of the committee are experts in their various roles and are hoping to develop working plan to address the issues raised within the report. The committee are awaiting announcement of the new chairman with the change of government because unfortunately Paul Rowen lost his seat at the general election, Paul has helped raise the profile in Parliament and has helped with great advances in the last twelve months since the group met with the former Prime Minister.

How do I become an Asbestos aeetbmant removal worker?hello, I would like a job in asbestos removal and aeetbmant but I have no training. I am wondering how I would go about getting the training for it do I look for a job first and then take the training course or do I need to take the training course first and then look for a job in that field? is an online asbestos course the same as going to a class in the eyes of an employer? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.. is there any cheap courses that anyone knows about in my area?thank you for the help

It is the fact that people will rtagluee what they can do without or what they can substitute. Cars have no alternative and we are not going to give them up. Asbestos could be replaced with fiberglass, so get rid of it. We also ignore what we can not control. More people are struck by lightening that die of asbestos, but nobody wants to control that. Bathtubs are more dangerous than asbestos.

I'll take 2 minutes to tell Senators not to sproput this Act. I work for a company that supplies consumer products companies with materials, and they are VERY STRICT about the products they recieve and the safety testing involved. Minor changes require months of testing. It is very difficult and often takes welo over a year to introduce an ALREADY TESTED raw material into a new product that we might sell to them. This article is nothing more than scare-monthering. IT is a solution without a problem.By the way, formaldehyde is everywhere. It is present throughout our environment. The purpose of this law is not for the children , but to give greater control over how comapanies do business. It is more central planning and more favoritism for the big guys vs. the little guys.We had a lead issue with toys coming from China. One of the marketers of the toys that contained lead is Mattel. Congress went into action and created new testing methods to prevent lead containing toys from being sold into this country. Guess who is exempted from having their products tested by an independent agency for the presence of lead . . .Mattel. See how great this legilsation works? It sickens me how easily people get sucked into this garbage. We have 9% unemployement close to 20% undermployment or given up, and we watn to have more laws so we can pay more people to push around paper instead of doing something productive. I find it interesting that there are no statistics, no background on the real extent of the problem that this law is supposed to address. If it was that bad, I would think there would be more about it. That doesn't stop you from trying to scare us.
