System tracks Competency

CDM2007.org have just finished the first stage of a new software release that brings competency registration at zero cost.  The CDM2007 regulations have long been challenged by the fact the a definition of competency is difficult to achieve and to be real needs a point of reference.  This is one of the main reasons we have held back on defining competency through our training, after all true competency is not about knowledge it is about experience.

4 weeks ago we took delivery from the development team of the first stage of new CDM2007.org software release for testing.  This new release has the ability for anyone registered on CDM2007.org to complete a short form that defines an experience that the student has had.  It might be attending a conference or completing a module on the site these type of experiences will be listed as CPD events and count toward our CPD registers.

The same form can be used to provide details of a practical experience that if suitably supported and repeated becomes a competency in a given subject.  We are well aware that a Roofer who has completed 2 roofs without falling off or hurting anyone else is not competence.  However if he has completed 10 roofs and each job has the site CDM-C confirming that all safety guidelines was fulfilled and that the roofer managed his work in a competent and safe manner then maybe this roofer is deemed to be a competent worker.

We are well aware that competence is in the eye of the employer and CDM2007.org are providing the tools for prospective employers to view a workers safety record and read reports of their actions and feedback from relevant staff associated with their workload.

The system manages the approvals automatically and enables communications by email to make the process as simple as possible.

Final testing of the new software is due to be completed over the coming few weeks and as a planned release date of  Mid February.
