CDM2007.org DONATES £10,000 WORTH OF TRAINING TO CONSTRUCTION YOUTH TRUST

The innovative CDM2007.org project, initiated and managed by the London Borough of Bromley, has donated 50 training courses with a combined value of over £10,000 to support the Construction Youth Trust.

The donation, made at last week’s Annual Construction Health and Safety Awards, where CDM2007.org was a finalist in two categories, will enhance the Trust’s provision of wide ranging programmes and construction skills courses.

CDM2007.org delivers comprehensive modular training and support materials via a dedicated website. It is aimed primarily at local authorities and public service organisations. The digitally distributed, interactive training programme provides the tools necessary for construction personnel to meet government and industry standards redefined by the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 (CDM2007).

Conceived originally to meet the needs and standards of the London Borough of Bromley, the project has now been extended to serve other local authorities, public services and private sector organisations across the UK.

The Construction Youth Trust aims to enable young people to overcome barriers to training and employment in the construction industry. It organises individual bursaries, work placement schemes and guidance schemes as well as training courses. By helping individuals in this way, the Trust’s work effectively tackles social exclusion and related disadvantage.

“In a tough climate, new entrants into the industry need access to the best training available. CDM2007.org is delighted to help them get it,” said Steve Dalby, Business Manager at CDM2007.org,

“The CDM2007.org project delivers effective training for all people, at all levels, who work within the building and construction industry. Our donation to the Construction Youth Trust will, I hope, be the start of a long-term relationship, in which our courses become part of the high quality training and support offered to the young people on their programmes,” he said.

Christine Townley, Director, at Construction Youth Trust, said: “This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity to support 50 of our beneficiaries.  We are delighted to be working with CDM2007.org on this venture.  The trust sees virtual learning as a key way that young people can learn more about the industry and develop their skills."

CDM2007.org was an Awards finalist as Best Safety Product. Its originator David Jones was a finalist also, as ‘Health & Safety Champion of the Year’.

Notes to Editors:

CDM2007.org background

In anticipation of the release of the CDM 2007 Regulations, London Borough of Bromley built a new central e-learning portal and developed essential modular on-line CDM2007 training. This was launched on 31 May 2007.

The CDM2007.org project provides essential unified on-line modular CDM training available to all public service organisations and local authorities across the UK. The training addresses the need to provide credible proof of competence, as the new CDM2007 Regulations and Corporate Manslaughter & Corporate Homicide Act 2007 require. It will enable those who undertake the training and who pass the tests to have the necessary tools to prove they are competent to discharge their lawful duties. Under the regulations particular importance is attached to the new statutory role of the CDM Coordinator, and the three key areas that prove competency: job experiences, the work being completed and continued professional development.

Longer term The CDM2007.org project aims to establish a joined-up CDM community to share experience and raise the culture of health and safety thereby reducing fatalities and injuries within the building and construction industries and bringing about safer communities.

The project started when the senior management team at Bromley approached David Jones, Planned Maintenance Team Manager, to provide in-house training for the local Bromley team.   It was realised that by creating a modular training course it would also meet the requirements for all other local authorities and other public service organisations.

By them sharing the CDM2007 modular training to other public service organisations across the Internet using an E-Learning Portal, this would assist the whole of the public sector
