Mouchel is an international consulting and business services group that provides many of the design, managerial and engineering services that support modern society, working with government agencies, local authorities, government-regulated industries and the private sector to provide safe, reliable roads and railways, well-managed education and civic infrastructure, clean water, and cost-effective energy.

The CDM Regulations require Mouchel to inform, instruct and train to build / ensure competence in the delivery of designer, CDM co-ordinator and principal contractor services to their clients. To achieve this Mouchel needs a standardised approach for CDM training, continued professional development and recording, delivering mandatory minimum requirements with a flexible path for competence progression that will ensure a level of consistency in CDM competence across the whole Mouchel group.

In 2007, when www.cdm2007.org was first created to deliver online CDM competence training courses, Mouchel quickly recognised the value of this method of training at their client business unit Hertfordshire Highways, and took the decision to put both their own managers and also the client’s through the training programme as soon as possible to ensure competence at all levels.

There is now a comprehensive Competence Progression Proposal in place throughout Mouchel, and www.cdm2007.org has been awarded the order for Stage One of the plan, involving the development and implementation of an hour long customised training module to be issued to all relevant staff.

The flexibility of the online training, allowing students to go through courses at a time and place to suit their individual needs, was a major factor. The upcoming third-party accreditation, which is to be awarded to www.cdm2007.org very shortly, was also important.

As Stage One is rolled out by the www.cdm2007.org team over the next few months, plans to implement additional more detailed courses for managers across Mouchel will be taking shape.
